Last year I wrote a poem for my daughter's birthday. At her party, we decided to split the group into three groups to make up tunes for the poem--a song contest. We had a fun time doing this. Her sister's boyfriend is a musician. I challenged him to write a "real" melody to the words and perform it in public. He did this last night at a local club. I shot a movie of it on my iphone. It is posted after the words. I hope you like his version. I loved it.
Don’t
cry on my shoulder
Just
‘cause you’re getting older
Stop
making a fuss
No
one can sympathize ‘cause we’re so happy
You’re older than us
Quit
your belly-achin’
You’re
the birthday star
We’re
all your friends
We
don’t care how old you are
So
blow out those candles
It’s
getting hot in here
Celebrate
your birthday
Don’t
cry in your beer.
Quit
your belly-achin’
You’re
the birthday star
We’re
all your friends
We
don’t care how old you are.
Dance,
if you still can
To
the music’s beat
We’re
all here
Celebrating
an amazing feat
You’re
still alive and kicking
And
walking down the street
So
quit your belly-achin’
And
enjoy the treat.
